Arid Forest
Research Institute has been established since
1988 to cater the forestry research needs of the
arid and semi arid region of Rajasthan, Gujarat
& Dadar Nagar Haveli & Daman-Diu.
The institute is
situated on Jodhpur_Pali Road (NH-65) in a
beautiful campus spreading over 20.82 hectare
area housing office buildings, laboratories,
library cum information center, community
center, guest house, scientist hostel and
residential quarters.

The
main
thrust
areas
of
the
Institute
are
soil,
water
and
nutrient
management
technologies
for afforestation of
stress sites, management of plantations, growth
and yield modeling, planting stock improvement,
bio-fertilizers
and |

bio-pesticides, agroforestry,
JFM and extension, phytochemistry and non-timber
forest products, integrated pest and disease
management and forestry education.

The institute has an additional campus
at Plot No. 729 adjoining CAZRI.The
institute also has three experimental
areas and a model nursery within the
vicinity of the main campus.
The institute is headed by the Director
supported by Group Coordinator (Reasearch)
and Coordinator(Facilities). The
Institute has six divisions with well
equipped laboratories and technical
manpower namely
1. Forest Ecology Division.
2. Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding
Division.
3. Forest Protection Division.
4. Silviculture Division.
5. Non Wood Forest Products Division.
6. Agroforestry & Extension Division
These divisions are well supported with
the Information technology Cell,
Coordinator ( Facilities ), Accounts
Section and Library cum Information
Center and an Extension Wing.
The institute has a working strength of
110 (out of sanctioned strength of 133)
which includes two Conservator of
forests, one Deputy Conservator of
forests, 19 Scientists, a Controller, an
Assistant Administrative Officer, a
Hindi officer, a Librarian, 6 Research
Officers, A Range Officer and ministrial
& Technical Staff.
